Paper cup template

A paper cup prints flat as a curved arc, which is why artwork that looks straight on screen bends on the cup. Upload your artwork in Packaroo and see it wrapped on a 3D cup straight away.

The flat print area of a cup is a curved fan whose exact shape depends on each manufacturer’s taper and side seam. Your cup supplier will confirm their template.

How to read this dieline

Every Packaroo dieline uses the same four line types.

Cut line

The outside edge of the pack. Anything past this line is trimmed off.

Fold line

Where the board or film folds. Keep text and logos about 3 mm away so they do not land on a crease.

Bleed

Extend background colours and images to this line so no white edge shows if the cut shifts.

Safe area

Keep text, barcodes and logos inside this line, usually 3 to 5 mm inside the cut.

Before you design

Rim, seam and base

The top of the cup wall rolls over to form the rim, so artwork there wraps out of sight. The two ends of the arc overlap at the side seam, so continue the background through it and keep text away. The bottom edge folds under to grip the base. Keep text clear of all three.

Design it in 3D instead

In Packaroo you drop your artwork onto this dieline, see it as a 3D pack you can spin, check bleed and safe area, then export a spec pack your supplier can quote from. Start on the free plan, then export a spec pack for A$15, or subscribe if you export often.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the cup template curved?

A cup is a cone section. When unrolled flat, the wall becomes an arc, so artwork has to be laid out on that arc to appear upright on the cup.

Do 12 oz and 16 oz cups use the same lid?

Often, yes. Many 12 oz and 16 oz hot cups share a 90 mm rim. Check the rim size with your supplier.

Can I see the result in 3D?

Yes. Packaroo shows your artwork on a 3D cup, so you can check whether a logo lands straight before you print.

Can I export files for the cup printer?

Yes. A spec pack includes the artwork on the dieline, the dieline itself, 3D renders, a specification sheet and a prepress report.

Can I design on this template?

Yes. Open it in Packaroo, drop in your artwork and see it in 3D on the free plan. A spec pack export for your supplier is A$15.
